Canplas 3-Way Mounting Plat...

$6.99

Product details

This three-way mounting plate gives a central vacuum inlet valve a solid anchor point inside a wall that is already finished, which is exactly the problem retrofit installs run into. New-construction brackets need open stud bays to nail up; this plate is built to go in without opening the wall further than the inlet cutout itself.

An inlet without a rigid anchor tends to work itself loose after enough cycles of connecting and disconnecting a hose, and once it is loose it leaks air at the joint under vacuum, which reads as weaker suction at that inlet and, on some systems, at every other inlet sharing the same trunk line. A solid mounting point is what keeps the valve sitting flush and sealed for the life of the installation.

This is part 791044W, sized for two by three inch wall construction. Set the plate square to the framing before fastening, and confirm the inlet valve you are installing uses a standard three-way mounting pattern before you cut into the wall.

Retrofit work like this usually means cutting the wall opening first and working the plate in through that opening at an angle, then straightening it against the back of the drywall before driving fasteners. Having a helper hold the plate steady from inside the opening while you drive the first screw makes the difference between a flush install and one that shifts out of square partway through.
