This 1 1/2 inch to 1 1/4 inch black plastic adapter is a vacuum hose connector made to fit Shark upright vacuums. It steps a standard 1 1/2 inch opening down to the 1 1/4 inch diameter used by many wands and cleaning tools, so attachments that would otherwise sit loose can seal properly onto your machine.
Small connectors like this one solve a common repair problem. When a replacement hose, wand, or floor tool does not quite match the vacuum it needs to join, the correct adapter bridges the gap and keeps the connection airtight, which is what preserves suction at the cleaning end.
The molded plastic construction holds up to repeated attachment and removal. If you are rebuilding a Shark upright hose assembly or adding tools from another system, this is often the one small piece that makes everything fit.
