Clean Max Release Pedal May...

Product details

Every recline of a Clean Max ZM800, Maytag M500 or Titan T500 upright starts with a foot pressing the release pedal, which trips the catch holding the handle upright. Reclining the handle is not an occasional action; it happens at the start of nearly every cleaning pass, so this pedal absorbs more repeated force than almost any other part on the machine.

The plastic around the pedal's pivot pin is the usual failure point. It thins with repeated flexing until a corner chips or the whole tab snaps off, and once that happens the pedal either fails to trip the catch or stops returning to its resting position. A vacuum that will not recline, or that reclines and then will not lock upright again, is very often this pedal rather than the catch itself.

Part B220-0714 replaces the pedal as a complete unit with its axle, and it also crosses over to the Simplicity R10P, R10S and Riccar R10P, R10S built on the same base. Because the pedal is worked with a foot rather than a hand, it is easy to press harder than necessary out of habit, and that extra force is part of what shortens its service life compared to parts operated more gently. If the pedal still works but has started feeling gritty or slow to return, cleaning packed debris out of the catch area sometimes buys time before the swap becomes necessary.

  • Function: foot-operated release for the recline catch
