Part B480-4514 is the black inlet seal for the direct air motor on MV ULW Series Riccar and Simplicity uprights. It is listed for the Maytag M500 and M1200 and for the Simplicity Volt. A seal at a motor inlet has one job, which is to keep that joint airtight.

Seals harden and shrink with heat and age, and a hardened seal can still look perfectly intact while no longer closing under vibration. That makes a failing inlet seal one of the quieter causes of weak pickup: nothing about the machine sounds different, but some of what the motor is drawing arrives through the leak instead of through the nozzle.
