This OEM wing nut (part #1285720000) is a factory replacement that secures the handle fork on Dirt Devil and Royal upright vacuums. Threaded for hand tightening, it clamps the handle assembly firmly so the upper handle stays fixed to the machine during use.
Handle hardware loosens and wears with repeated adjustment, and a stripped or missing wing nut lets the handle wobble or work free. A loose handle makes the vacuum hard to control and puts stress on the surrounding parts. A fresh wing nut restores a solid, secure connection at the handle fork.
