Inside a Bissell PowerForce Compact dirt tank, a plastic separator spins incoming air hard enough that heavier debris drops out of the airstream before it ever reaches the fine filter. Part 1607629 is that separator, fitting the 1520 and 2112 models and their close variants. Without it seated correctly, the cyclone stage simply is not happening, no matter how strong the motor is.
The separator fails in two ways that both look identical from the outside: a crack or split in the plastic that breaks the cyclone's airflow path, or the separator simply not being reseated fully after the tank was last emptied. Either one sends dust straight onto the filter instead of dropping it into the tank, and the filter then loads up within a single cleaning session instead of lasting for several. Suction drops noticeably, and it keeps dropping even with a filter that was just cleaned, which is the clearest sign the problem is upstream at the separator rather than at the filter itself.
Seat the new separator fully into the tank and confirm the tank latches without needing extra force, since a separator that is even slightly out of position will not seal against the tank wall.
