Returns & Exchanges

Need to return an item? We’re happy to help. Eligible items may be returned by requesting authorization within 35 days of delivery. Once approved, your return must reach us within 21 days.

Return eligibility

Items must be unused, in new condition, and include their original packaging and all accessories. Machines that use water cannot be returned once unboxed, unless defective upon arrival.

Shipping and refunds

For non-defective returns, customers cover return shipping. Original shipping charges are nonrefundable. If your order included free shipping, our actual outbound shipping cost will be deducted from your refund. Eligible returns have no restocking fee.

Dyson built the DC40, UP16 and UP19 around the same pre-motor filter, and FIL-DC40PRE is the direct replacement for it. The filter sits ahead of the motor, screening out fine dust before that air passes through to the motor housing.

Because this filter sits right in front of the motor, a build-up of trapped dust restricts airflow at that point first, and suction drops even when the bin is only partially full. Checking and swapping this filter is one of the quickest ways to rule out the filter, rather than the motor, when one of these uprights starts to feel underpowered.
