The bristles on a brush roll are a consumable, and on the Bernina 6100 and 6700 they come as a replaceable insert rather than a whole new roll. Evolution part 01-3655-09 is that insert.
Worn bristles are the most under-diagnosed cause of poor carpet pickup. The roll still spins, the belt is fine, the bag is empty, but the bristles have shortened and flattened to the point where they skim the pile instead of flexing into it, and everything below the surface stays where it is. Held against a new insert, the difference in bristle length is usually obvious.
The insert seats into the roll in place of the old one. Cut away wound hair and thread and check the roll's end bearings still turn freely while you have it out; a roll that drags will flatten new bristles just as fast.
