The extension plug is the small connector at the hose end of a Beam electric central vacuum hose, and part 170106 replaces it on the Beam 5605. It carries the electrical path from the hose wiring on toward the power nozzle, so it is a link in the circuit rather than an airflow part.
Plugs fail from handling. Every time the hose is connected, coiled, dragged around a doorway or pulled out by the cuff, the plug body takes the strain. Eventually the shell cracks or a contact loosens, and the power nozzle starts cutting out, running only when the hose is held a certain way, or going dead while the vacuum motor keeps running. That intermittent nozzle is the usual reason people come looking for this part.
Fitting is a matter of seating the new plug fully and checking the connection is snug. Confirm your hose is the 5605 style before ordering.
