Product details

Trigger spring for Hoover SteamVac and upright extractor models, part 38312019, listed for the 5411 and the 5837 (F5837-900). It works inside the hose handle alongside the solution trigger, returning it after each squeeze, and measures roughly 1.3 inches long.

A spring like this cycles every single time the operator asks for solution, so it is among the first things to give out on a carpet cleaner that has done real work. When it goes, the trigger stays down or feels dead, and solution either runs continuously or will not come at all. People often blame the pump for both symptoms.

Length, diameter and tension all have to be right for the trigger to work as designed, which is why a substitute spring out of a parts drawer rarely behaves. Fit the correct one and the trigger action comes straight back.
