Product details

A flat agitator belt for Hoover WindTunnel uprights without power drive, supplied two to a pack under part number 40201160. It drives the brush roll off the motor shaft, and it is a consumable: flat belts begin stretching from the day they are fitted.

The failure is easy to read once you know it. A stretched belt lets the brush roll slow under load, so the vacuum sounds normal on bare floor but stops lifting anything out of carpet, often with a hot rubber smell. A snapped one leaves the roller completely still. Either way the machine keeps pulling air through the hose, which is what convinces people the belt must be fine.

Fit a fresh one roughly once a year on a machine in regular use, and check that the brush roll spins freely by hand before you blame the new belt.
