This white inlet valve is a direct replacement for the wall connection points on Beam central vacuum systems. Every time you plug in or remove the hose, the inlet's valve mechanism and seal do their work, and after years of daily use the inlets are often the first parts of a central vacuum installation to wear out.
A failing inlet usually announces itself in familiar ways. The hose no longer seats cleanly, the door will not close flush, or suction drops at one wall port while the rest of the house cleans normally. Swapping in a fresh valve restores the tight seal the system needs to deliver full suction at that connection.
