Product details

A Kirby Sentria II that loses suction gradually, without any single dramatic drop, often has a cracked mini em-tor rather than a tired motor. Part 188812 is that mini em-tor: a moulded housing that holds the paper filter bag inside the Sentria II's outer bag assembly, directing fan air into the bag rather than letting it escape around it.

The housing does not wear thin the way fabric does, it splits. It splits from a hard knock, most often when the machine is dropped, or when someone pries the housing loose during a bag swap instead of lifting it clear. A fine grey haze building up inside the bag, where none showed before, signals that air is bypassing the seal before it ever reaches the paper filter.

Look the old housing over in good light once it is out, flexing the plastic gently, since a hairline split is easy to miss on a part that otherwise looks sound. Check the sealing surfaces the housing meets at the same time, because a seal that has hardened or flattened leaks the same way a cracked housing does, and replacing only one of the two can leave part of the problem in place.

Fit the paper filter bag onto the new housing before it goes back into the machine, rather than after, and confirm there is no gap where the housing seats once it is home. A housing that looks intact but sits slightly proud of its mount will leak at that gap the same way a cracked one does.
