Returns & Exchanges

Part 115330 is an Ametek Lamb bypass motor, 7.2 inches across the fan housing, built with two fan stages and wound for 120 volts. Ametek catalogs its discharge as peripheral, meaning the exhaust air is thrown outward off the fan blades to the sides of the housing rather than routed through a horn; the same discharge is also described as centrifugal.

Ametek builds this one on its older-style 7.2-inch platform, classes it as a high performance motor, lists its input power at 1500 watts, and gives its replacement brush kit as 833415-54. It rates the 7.2-inch bypass peripheral family at sealed vacuums up to 135 inches of water lift and flow rates up to 125 CFM.

Bypass construction keeps the cooling airflow across the motor windings separate from the dirty airstream the machine is drawing in, which is the standard arrangement for central vacuum power units and larger canisters. Because the motor never sees the debris-laden air, a bypass motor can outlast a thru-flow one under the same duty cycle, but it still ages: suction that has fallen off across every inlet in the system, a bearing whine or rumble that was not there before, running that trips off partway through a job, or a burning smell all point to the motor rather than a blockage in the piping.

Rule out the simpler causes first. A pinched hose, a full canister, or a filter overdue for cleaning can pull suction down enough to mimic a failing motor. If performance stays weak with everything else clear, the motor is the part that needs to come out. Central vacuum motors carry mains voltage, so isolate power at the unit before opening the housing.
