Lamb 2-Stage Bypass Motor -...

Product details

Cana-Vac specifies this Ametek Lamb bypass motor for three of its central vacuum power units, the 911-ECP Ecopure, the XLS970, and the 911-XLS. It ships as part 122175-00, an 8.4-inch two-stage frame built for 120-volt service with a tangential discharge, so exhaust air leaves off to one side of the housing rather than out the back.

A bypass design keeps the motor's cooling air on a separate path from the dirty airstream the system pulls in, which is what lets it survive long duct runs and years of continuous cycling in a way a through-flow household motor could not. Two-stage construction trades away some peak airflow for the ability to hold suction steady as duct length and the number of open inlets add resistance across the system.

Weak suction at every inlet in the house, a new rumble or whine from the power unit, or a scorched odor coming off the canister point at the motor rather than the piping, but rule out a pinched hose or an overdue filter first, since either can drag performance down in a way that looks like a failing motor. Central vacuum motors carry mains voltage, so cut power at the breaker before opening the unit, and let a technician handle the swap when the internal wiring is unfamiliar.

  • Before ordering: confirm your power unit is one of the three Cana-Vac models listed, and check frame diameter and discharge orientation against the motor coming out
