Carpet is where the wear shows first. Once the bristles stop standing proud of the roll body they brush across the pile instead of digging into it, and going over the same section twice still turns up visible dirt the first pass should have lifted. On bare floor the same worn roll simply pushes fine dust ahead of the nozzle.
Debris that winds tightly around the end caps compounds the bristle wear on top of that, dragging on the bearings, shortening belt life, and eventually stalling the roll outright if it is left uncleared for long enough. Because the EBK250 usually alternates between carpet and hard floor in a single session, checking the roll's full length rather than one spot gives a truer read on whether it is due for replacement.
Clear the ends of wrapped debris once the new roll is in, and check the drive belt for glazing while the machine is open, since a tired belt undercuts a fresh roller straight away.
