PVC ages faster than the metal fittings found elsewhere in a central vacuum system, growing brittle and prone to hairline cracking at the base long before a metal part in the same position would show wear. Because this fitting sits right where the bag attaches, a bag that will not stay clipped in place, or one that seats normally but still lets dust escape around its base, is worth checking against this part before assuming the bag itself is at fault.
