It comes with its SoftTouch protective cover already fitted along the hose to guard stairs, doorframes, and wall corners from scuffing as it retracts and extends, and both hose-end fittings are pre-installed so it is ready to accept a handle. A protective cover matters more on a retractable hose than on a stored hose kept on a hook, since a retracting hose is dragged past the same corners and edges on every pass rather than being coiled up out of the way between uses.
