Pulling hair off a roller takes seconds on a SEBO upright because of one lever. Flip the lever and the roller comes clear of the head in one movement; close it and the roller is clamped back into its bearings with no tools involved.
It is worth understanding what the release is holding against. Drive reaches the roller in two stages on these machines: the motor pulley at item 143 turns a belt to the sensor pulley at item 151, and a second belt takes drive from there down to the roller, which runs in the right-hand bearing block at item 122. The release is what keeps that roller square in line with both. A worn or cracked release lets it float sideways under load, and the belt then tracks toward one flange instead of sitting centred, so the complaint arrives as a squeal or a belt that keeps coming off when the real fault is the lever. The opposite failure is a release that has stiffened up and will not let the roller out at all, which turns a two-minute cleanout into a strip-down.
