Underneath a Hoover FH50250 carpet cleaner, the bristles that do the scrubbing are held in a moulded block, and this five-bristle block is part 440010816. It fits the FH50250 and FH50250V and runs right across the FH502 series: the FH50251, FH50251PC and FH50251V, the FH50252, FH50253PC and FH50253VPC, the FH50256PC and FH50256VPC, the FH50258 and FH50258V, and the FH50259CDI.
Bristles wear the way a toothbrush does. They splay, flatten and lose the stiffness that lets them reach into the pile, and because the wear is rarely even, one side of the block starts skimming while the other still scrubs. Floors look dull after a full pass and marks that used to lift now stay put.
Hold the old block next to a new one; the difference in bristle height is usually obvious.
