Kirby Handle Spring Oil-Lit...

$7.99

Product details

Oil-Lite is an oil-impregnated bronze bearing that lubricates itself as it turns, and Kirby uses one at the handle spring pivot on the Tradition 3CB, Heritage I, Heritage II and Heritage II Legend. This is the genuine replacement, part 137973S.

Decades of use eventually drive the oil out of the bronze. A dry bearing squeaks with every recline, and as it wears the pivot picks up play, so the handle feels stiff in one direction and loose in the other. The friction also puts load on the spring and on the parts around it.

Fit a new bearing and the handle moves quietly again. Resist the urge to soak it in oil afterwards: the bronze holds its own lubricant, and heavy oiling only collects grit. It presses into the housing in place of the original, so check your model plate before ordering.
