Product details

Pre-motor foam filter, Bissell part 1608225. It fits the PowerForce 1700, 1701, 2190 and 2191 uprights and a wide run of other Bissell machines, including the 2252 through 2260 range, the 2316 and 2316C, the 3197A, 3198 and 3198A, and the 3332, 3333, 3534, 3675 and 3676.

This filter is the last line of defence in front of the motor, so it catches everything the dirt cup lets through. Foam blinds gradually rather than suddenly: suction tapers off over a few weeks, the motor pitch climbs as it fights the restriction, and the exhaust starts to smell warm.

It is washable. Rinse under warm water, squeeze rather than wring, and let it dry fully before refitting, because a damp foam filter turns incoming dust straight into a paste. Replace it outright when the foam loses its spring or starts crumbling at the edges.
