The float inside a Bissell TurboClean's dirty water tank is a small but important safety part: as the tank fills, it rises with the water level until it seats against the suction port and cuts off airflow, so the motor never draws in water while the tank is full. This cobalt blue float is part 164-1207.
A float that has cracked, absorbed water, or lost buoyancy will not rise properly, and the result is either an overfilled tank or suction that cuts out early even when the tank still has room left. A float that has come loose from its cage can also rattle audibly inside the tank.
