The bumper base meets furniture and walls throughout each clean, and over time it cracks, wears, or splits, leaving the housing edge unprotected. Once the bumper gives out, knocks reach the compartment directly. Fitting a fresh bumper base restores the protective edge and keeps the housing intact.
