Product details
W28XQ08 is an 8 amp mechanical circuit breaker built for a VacuMaid central vacuum power unit, wired inline so it can open the circuit before an overload reaches the motor windings or the household wiring feeding the unit. A bimetal element inside flexes as current climbs, and once draw crosses the 8 amp threshold the element trips the contacts apart and cuts power to the motor.
The overloads that trip it are almost always airflow or motor problems: a filter clogged solid, a blockage lodged in the hose or pipe run that forces the motor to labor, or a motor bearing that has begun to bind and drag. Unlike a fuse, the breaker resets with a push of its button once the cause has cleared, so an ordinary trip costs nothing but the minute it takes to find the blockage.
Testing a suspect breaker is simple: reset it once with the machine unplugged, then plug in and run the unit with the hose open and unobstructed. A unit that trips again within seconds of a clean reset, with no blockage anywhere in the hose or pipe to explain it, points to a breaker that has worn out on its own. A breaker that has tripped many times across years of service can weaken internally, opening at lower loads than it used to or refusing to hold a reset at all, and that is when the breaker itself has become the part in need of replacement rather than whatever tripped it originally.
VacuMaid builds this mechanical breaker in several ratings, with 8, 10, 15 and 16 amp versions in the line, so match the rating stamped on the breaker coming out rather than guessing from the power unit's model name. Keeping a spare on hand is common practice for anyone maintaining an older VacuMaid system, and if a trip had an obvious cause, clear the blockage before assuming the breaker needs replacing at all.
